provincial hospital ci unit

Bloemfontein, Free State Province, South Africa

The Universitas Provincial Hospital CI Unit in Bloemfontein, Free State, plays a crucial role in supporting hearing-impaired children.
However, the unit faces challenges such as limited resources for cochlear implant maintenance, rehabilitation, and training. The associated Carel du Toit School also struggles to meet the growing demand for specialised education, given its unique focus on teaching spoken language instead of sign language.

our work with universitas ci unit

Hearo collaborates with the CI Unit to improve access to cochlear implants and ensure ongoing support for recipients in the form of rehabilitation. Our aim is to help the unit and school provide comprehensive care and education, addressing barriers for underserved learners and their families.

The Carel du Toit School is expected to apply for Hearo funding this year to support an audiologist’s salary, as government positions have been frozen.
